The Air Training Corps

The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a uniformed youth organisation originally developed to encourage and support young people wishing to enjoy a career in the Royal Air Force or an interest in aviation. It was established on 5th February, 1941 from its predecessor, the Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC). It has three main aims that have changed very little since their adoption:

  • To promote and encourage among young men and women a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.

  • To promote training which will be useful both in the services and in civil life.

  • To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

RAF Air Cadets

As we entered the new millennium more emphasis was placed on both the Air Training Corps and the RAF Sections of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) working more closely together. This joint collaboration became to be known as the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO).

More recently the Air Cadets wanted to better promote our close links to our parent organisation, the Royal Air Force so on 1st October 2017, the ACO was rebranded the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC).

You can find out more about our organisation from the national RAF Air Cadets website.
